[Ohio-talk] updated status of reading on radio reading service.

Hi everyone,

 

Last week I reported to you that I auditioned for reading on the radio and I
passed. The moment came at a spur of the moment when an assistant reader did
not come in at all. Bob Marquardt, a volunteer reader, coworker at
Clovernook  and close friend of mine and I was preparing for the USA Today
Show for the second hour which the reading of the editorial, letters,
opinion, and business and money sections. The time came when I went into
with studio with Bob and I had my PacMate Omni with Braille display running
FSReader loaded and running ready to read the first article. Bob read the
first half hour and I listened to him. When we came to the Money section, he
gave me the verbal cue of Money and I took over to read the first article.
It went very well. Bob read the remaining article until we had a little time
for one more article. He gave a tactile cue by tapping his finger on my
hand. I jumped at the opportunity and read an article he did not read. As
time was running out, he gave me a tactile tap to let me know it was time to
wrap up. That article went fine as well. I felt proud of what I had done. I
called a couple of people whom I knew that had or once had a WRRS radio but
haven't found anyone who may have heard me to get feedback. Time will tell
what happens after Thanksgiving holiday and Christmas holiday. I haven't
even started my training session yet. Before I started, an engineer gave me
a training CD for us to view regarding reading on the radio at CABVI at
WRRS. He hasn't viewed it yet but I think I picked up on some bad habits
that some people do on the air that was able to identify. I believe a couple
of them I have but I'm sure with practice in reading aloud for the last four
years as braille proofreader and looking up words for proper pronunciation,
and reading more audible books and listening to how the narrators pronounce
things, I should be OK.
