Last year was the very first "Disability Awareness Day" on Miami Beach. IT took place on October 23, 2009 and was a huge success. The event was an opportunity to showcase the talents of hundreds of artists, performers and people of all abilities that are vital for making Miami Beach the vibrant community in which we live.
This year we have changed the name and the format of the event to compliment the wide array of talent and resources available in our area and to promote Miami Beach as the most accessible city in the world.
"Ability Explosion" will take place the week of October 19th through the 24th.
Some of the events we are planning this year include:
A Resource and Technology Expo at the convention center
Business Luncheon
Comedy Festival
Music Symposium
Aqua-bility Explosion water sports exhibition, Crunch 5k Run
Lights out Miami Beach (a dining in the dark experience)
Live taping of TV shows "Cooking without Looking" and Traveling without Trouble",
Education Simulation
And much, much more.
One of the high-lights of the week will be our Benefit Cocktail party and Fashion Show at the Miami Beach Golf and Country Club.
Our planning committee is now working on this first time, ground breaking and extraordinary event. We have secured designers and models along with a large contingent of very excited individuals to make this event a shining example of what can happen when the community and motivated people of all abilities come together to make a positive change.
I hope that you will mark these dates on your calendar and share this information with your networks in the community.
Please go to www.abilityexplosion.org for more information about these events and please contact me with any questions.
