Deborah, now, if you could only contact me off-list and put together one
for me.  I am not a guide dog user, but German Shepherds are more than just
service dogs.  They are police dogs for the blind.  My Intelligent Brown
Man, (Brownie), was just that.  He was a friend to me and my neighbor and
neighborhood.  To make this blindness-related, he could have been a great
guide dog.  But he wanted more!  He looked out for me and my neighborhood. 
He gave me hugs.  He curled up in my lap.   And he was?  --?  A guide to
all of us!

He died on September 30 of 2011, defending the house and dog he loved. 
Now, my sighted neighbor and I await a new one.  She'll be from the
shelter, spayed.  But, she'll guide us around the neighborhood.  And I'll
guide her.  She'll be a pet, young, and fearless.  While I cannot afford to
go 28 days out of my mild-climate community, I'll have the next best thing:
a female German shepherd waiting to be fed, cuddled, and cleaned up after. 
And she'll remind me: "Eric, you may be blind, but I'll be your protector."
