Commission Chair Williams 

ddenly passed away yesterday surrounded by family and friends.  

Commissioner Williams was appointed to the Commission by Ohio Governor
Richard Celeste as an advisor on health and disability policy in 1983, and
he later became the first Director of the Governor's Office of Advocacy for
People with Disabilities. Governor Ted Strickland appointed him to the Ohio
Rehabilitation Services Commission in 2007 and he was appointed as Chairman
in 2010.  Commissioner Williams was a true advocate at all levels of
government for individuals with disabilities.  His perseverance and advocacy
resulted in several policy changes and many standards were created because
of his tireless effort in this area.

There will be an obituary in the Columbus Dispatch on Sunday, July 10, 2011.
There is a memorial service planned for July 16, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in
Amherst Ohio at St. Joseph's Church.  Our thoughts are with his wife Fran,
his children and colleagues.
