Executive Team Meets in Dayton 

I held an Executive Team meeting at the Dayton VR Office. It was an
excellent opportunity for members of the Executive Team to get feedback and
have dialog with staff from the Dayton region. It was also great to receive
input from our staff on how to move forward in our efforts to assist
individuals with disabilities.

LEAP

I met with Melanie Hogan, Executive Director, Linking Employment, Abilities
and Potential (LEAP) this week. LEAP has been recognized nationally for
their innovative approach to partnering with Northeast Ohioans with
disabilities by promoting self-determination, peer support, self-help and
self-advocacy, systems advocacy and equal access to society. In the
afternoon, we toured the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. LEAP runs
a summer youth transition work program at the VA center. I shared our
commitment to retain and grow our partnerships across the state and I'm
eager to look for ways to partner with LEAP in Northeast Ohio.

During their tour of the Louis Stokes VA Center, Melanie Hogan (center) and
Director Miller stopped to have a discussion with one of the center's
administrators.

Ohio Business Leadership Network

Walmart and Sears/K-Mart have joined the Business Leadership Network this
week. Welcome new partners!  

Recovery to Work Update

I met with the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, Ohio
Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities and other members of the
Recovery to Work Taskforce. I have been pleased with the roll-out and
development of our Recovery to Work program but we can always work together
to find improvements so this innovative partnership can serve as many
Ohioans as possible. Our efforts to combat prescription drug abuse were

Student Learning Syllabus

I ended the week by participating in an OSU Student Learning Community
Syllabus Event on the campus of The Ohio State University. RSC is proud to
partner with OSU and the Board of Regents on this important project to reach
out to students with disabilities as they begin their journey through
college and into the workplace. Students with disabilities participating in
this type of Student Learning Community model develop individualized
Transition Portfolios that identify their post-secondary goals for college
and employment and demonstrate awareness of the steps, skills and abilities
needed to achieve their goals. I really enjoyed listening to the students'
presentations.
