I. POSITION: GRANT WRITER
II. JOB CATEGORY: Professional
III. RESPONSIBLE TO: Chief Development Officer
IV. POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None
V. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
a. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
required. Minimum of three years experience in grant writing.
b. SKILLS: Demonstrated working knowledge of the non-profit
organization environment. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, i.e.,
spreadsheets, word processing, databases. Strong oral and written
communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain friendly and
cooperative relations with individuals contacted during the course of the
work. Ability to perform well in a collaborative, team environment. Ability
to perform well independently without direction. Must possess strong
research skills. Ability to make oral presentations to foundation program
staff. Ability to meet deadlines and produce high quality proposals with
required documentation. Understands and abides by all intended fiduciary and
privacy policies and procedures as stated in employee/policy handbook, and
within general Grant Writing/Development standards.
c. PHYSICAL: Must be able to do travel. Subject to work outside of
regular business hours.
VI. Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the
grant writer manages and participates in all aspects of proposal writing for
grant applications to support agency programs and projects.
VII. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Researches foundations for submission of appropriate grant
applications for agency programs and projects.
b. Researches government sources of grant funding, makes appropriate
contacts and prepares applications for submission.
c. Works with agency service divisions to develop proposals.
d. Writes and completes all grant proposals and applications in
accordance with funder's giving policies, guidelines and criteria.
e. Administers active grants and reports to foundations as requested and
required.
f. Maintains reports on grant applications in process and awarded or
declined. Maintains accurate foundation and government records and files.
g. Works with Chief Development Officer to plan for foundation and
government source funding.
h. Prepares necessary reports and statistics.
i. Maintains proficiency in the use of Raiser's Edge and related
software.
j. Provides data input and reports related to functions regarding
demographics and other development information from donors - using raisers
edge and other data programming.
k. Maintains the highest level of privacy of information placed in grant
proposals, and maintains grant information in highly secured areas within
the agency's normal storage sites - server, locked cabinet, etc.
l. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of all agency programs and strategic
plans in order to maximize availability of grants for agency programs.
j. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
VIII. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
a. Maintain physical requirements of position including travel and
additional work hours.
b. Maintains data record keeping.
c. Ability to perform all specific responsibilities of the position.
