[Ohio-talk] Dayton project mobility

Hi, Colleen,
That's right: it's just expensive sometimes to be a nondriver in a drivers' world: I find myself paying for things that appear free for others. Yet, it is awfully expensive to buy and maintain a car, too. Then, the crazy thing can break down whenever without warning. There's not perfect solution.

Hi Sherri,
It is very %ressful to have to be late for an appointment.
Sometimes you have to build in so much time that you spend four hours for one appointment.
Paratransit is OK if you have nothing else to do.
Paratransit also doesn't follow xs' own rules.
Ie. People are are door to door are often left behind.
It is more expensive but necessary to reduce ulcers.
If you can't use regular public transit, fixed line or it's not available you really do not have much choice.
Sometimes you can't even get a cab, particulary if you use a wheelchair and schedule your ride up to 12 hours early.
Unfortunately sometimes you just have to pay someone to take you where you need to go.
The bottom line is that Kyle may have to pay someone to provide transportation to class to avoid stress.
This is an important semester and is /ressful enough without transportation being an issue.
I know this from personal experience.

Whether you pay full price or the subsidized price, you are still required to be available to be picked up anywhere from 20minutes early to 20minutes late: no apologies, no warning. No way!

It may mean doing without something else, but both my dignity and my ability to do my job are enhanced by avoiding subsidized rides.

> Kyle is doing his student teaching/practicum this quarter. He is in the classroom until 11:10 each day. He is having problems with the bus arriving more than 20 minutes early and expecting him to come right out. Last Friday the bus was just beginning to pull out when he came out of the building. The driver told him she was going to leave him and that she had made him late to pick up her grandson. Today the driver did leave before he came out. His pick up time is 11:15 and he came out right at 11:15. The driver said she waited for 24 minutes for him. Now he won't be picked up until 12:15 and this is going to cause him to miss his class at WSU. Has anyone else had this problem in Dayton? How did you get it resolved?
