Buckeye Update, December 14, 2012
	Wednesday, December 12, was our protest at the Amazon headquarters
because of inaccessible content that Amazon is trying to push into schools.
It is unfortunate that because of our current financial situation we could
not send even one person to be a part of that. We have got to work hard to
raise money in the year to come, and chapters and divisions have to be
willing to funnel money upward. Everyone is tired of hearing about the need
to raise funds, and I am tired of talking about it. But I would be negligent
in my duties as president of this organization if I did not continue to
stress the need to find new ways to fund our programs until our financial
situation drastically improves.
	Several of our members tell me they want to be part of the
leadership of this affiliate. They say they want to support our efforts to
promote Braille or other programs. But I cannot take anyone seriously who
does not actively participate in Scrip. As I have said many times, this
program is the only steady source of income for us at this point.We all
shop, dine out, and buy gifts for others. Using Scrip to do so is painless.
Please join us and shop with Scrip.
	This week I submitted our application to conduct a BELL program in
Ohio. If our affiliate is chosen, I want to begin recruiting students as
soon as I believe there is a reasonable expectation that we will get the
funding we need. We must begin recruiting early in the year if our program
is going to be successful. Therefore it is important that we all do what we
can to generate funds spacifically for BELL. I am doing what I can, and I
hope to have some positive news very soon.
	Shelbi and I enjoyed the Cleveland Chapter Christmas party last
Saturday. We want to thank the chapter and especially William Turner and
Suzanne Turner for their hospitality. I understand that Miami Valley's Jazz
Explosion went very well. It sounds like the chapter might do this again
next year.
	I am sending out the combined leadership list one last time. This is
your final chance to make corrections before it is Brailled. It is attached
as well as pasted into the body of this message. I have Braille calendars
for 2013. These are the small calendars produced by the Action Fund. So, if
you need a calendar (or for that matter, several calendars), please let me
know, and I will be happy to send them to you.
	Have an enjoyable weekend. By the time I write again, Christmas Day
will be very near.
