Tom Perez, nominated to be President Obama's Secretary of Labor will have his confirmation hearing this Thursday or so they say. Either way, please take the time to click on the link below and send a message to your Senators letting them know that Tom Perez has worked tirelessly on behalf of the disability community and other minority groups in his previous role as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights and no doubt will succeed in enforcing labor provisions as the next Secretary.

For eight long years during the Bush Administration disability rights were an after thought at best at DOJ. Fortunately the despotic reign ended ushered in a more democratic approach to enforcing civil rights protections under current law. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Thomas Perez wasted no time when he was confirmed in this role. He pursued a balanced, fair and legal approach to upholding the provisions of the ADA, especially in terms of the Olmstead decision.

Due to his commitment to upholding the laws of the land, the former Attorney General of Civil Rights is facing a huge obstacle of Republican backlash as he approaches the confirmation hearing on his nomination to be the U.S. Secretary of Labor. Tom Perez is a champion of the voiceless and we need him to be confirmed for the Secretary of Labor. For far too long our employment numbers have been abysmal and high unemployment numbers unfathomable. I believe under Perez's leadership we will begin to see a fair and steady improvement in the employment of people with disabilities.

Please tell your Senators how important it is to confirm Thomas Perez as our next Secretary of Labor. We need an aggressive employment agenda now.

Thanks,
Becky
