Guys the convention is for all.
We will consider this and I think that we must think out of the box. The
leadership is listening and we will work out the best thing for all. No one
way are one person has the control of the affiliate. I think if we want to
have items on the agenda Erick and the rest of the leadership has been very
open. I am aware that in the past things have been done certain ways but
remember that the convention is to educate and involve you with all efforts.
This is our organization and we all play a part in making this convention
the best. I certainly would not want any one on this list are even those who
are not to have no input.
There may be issues that are not things that I would consider. But that does
not mean that we should not look at them. This which you have brought up
Shirl is something very similar to other things we have done before. There
is a conference call tomorrow night. I would encourage people to get in
touch with the chapter presidents and other leaders to voice your wishes for
the convention. Yes the president has the task of putting the agenda
together but he has made it clear that he needs input. Keep up the talk see
you in Dayton. Richard

Colleen, this just may not be my day for Ohio-Talk. What you are saying is
true to a point. It is so important to have a good safety plan, what works
for sighted people may not be workable for us. If a woman and her children
are in a active situation and want to walk away or need to leave right away,
should they try to schedule a ride on para transit? If you have never been
in an active dv situation and blind, it is difficult to think that the
agencies, hospitals, counselors,, law enforcement, family and friends know
how to assist us with what may be a unique set of problems. But with our
input they can be educated, this will only happen when we, blind women care
enough about other blind women that are in this situation and are too afraid
to get out.
Violence against women is running rampant in this country, if a little self
defense could help it we would not have the problem. It is a lotdeeper than
taking a defense class, or walking away. The most dangerous time for a women
is when chooses to leave, this is when most women are murdered.
I would like for others to chime in on this subject, I think it is an
important one to have within the blind community.
