I appreciate Eric's work in getting us good rates for our NFBO Convention.
Personally I do not care about amenities at our Conventions.
I go to the Convention to work. I personally think that we should get as many people to the epention as possible. Given that there is a need for individuals and Chapters to help with Convention Attendance we need to make it affordable.
I'm not talking about a dump. I am talking a hotel which doesn't have so many distractions that people would rather do other things than attend meetings.
If we sold $1000 worth of candy we will generate $150 clear.
I am going to make a suggestion. Years ago we took things to eat in our rooms which cut out some of the expenses incurred at a Convention.
There is no reason why people can't take a hot pot for heating water.
You can heat water to maoe oatmeal. You can also heat soup in the Hot Pot.
Crackers, Bread, and Peanut Butter work well too.
We have been able to go to other nearby restaurants which are less expensive too.
I like moving the Convention to different parts of the State but honestly I wouldn't care if the Convention was in Columbus every year.
I think it's OK to have someone from the area where a State Convention is held be on the Planning Committee. The Agenda and logistics are best handled by a Convention Commitee.
I can say this because I have been involved in the NFBO when Conventions had a lot more involvement from the Local Chapter.
This doesn't Local Chapter shouldn't help.
If we move the State Toledo hasn't had a Convention since 1998.
I think we have to have a lot more fund-raising if we are going to be able to assist people to go to the Convention.
Maybe some people got a little spoiled because they didn't have to work very hard to help get to the Convention.
I do not want people to miss the Convention, I would just like people to help with the Fund-raising so that we can help more people to attend.
