This update did not include that Mike Anderson also lost his mother. . He
is a very active member of the Dayton chapter. . Many of you met Mike at
the state convention. His mother was blind and Paul and Bernie came to
Dayton to work with her several times. I attended the visitation at the
funeral home and he was happy to see the NFB there to support him during
these difficult times. Richard

National Federation of the Blind of Ohio Buckeye Update, January 11, 2013
I hope everyone had a joyous holiday season. Life often brings us some
sorrow along with the joy. Last week we lost Jeanette Wade who was a
long-time member of our Federation family. I asked Paul and Bernie to send
flowers on behalf of our affiliate, and they took care of that on Sunday.
Jeanette's funeral was on Monday.
Barbara Pierce's mother died Sunday morning. Although I never met
her, and as far as I know she was never a member of our organization, we are
all grateful for the gift that she gave to us and to the world in Barbara.
Barbara is holding up very well, but please keep her and her family in your
thoughts and prayers.
Last week we celebrated the birthday of Louis Braille. I would like
to know what chapters and divisions did to commemorate the day. Were any
proclamations obtained?
Today I am celebrating my fiftieth birthday. I want to thank those
of you who have sent me good birthday wishes. I have heard from many of you
by phone, Email, text messages, and Facebook postings. Shelbi and I spent
the morning at a meeting of the Ohio Vendors Representative Committee. This
was not in my plans for the day, but we had to discuss our effort to provide
training to blind vendors and agency staff. I have spent a number of
birthdays working for the Federation, and I have enjoyed them all. Some
birthdays have been spent in the state legislature, at RSC, or in one
meeting or another.
On Monday I emailed materials to our Washington Seminar
participants. I hope that all of our team leaders have been working on
scheduling appointments.
Next Saturday, January 19, the Board of Directors will meet by
conference call beginning at 10:00 AM. This is an open meeting, and we
invite and encourage all members to attend. I strongly encourage chapter and
division presidents to attend whether or not you are on the Board. I will be
sending materials for the Board to review next week. The conference call
number is (605) 475-4875. Use access code 201909 and then press the pound
key.
Have good weekend. I look forward to seeing you on the call next
Saturday.
