Hello Friends,

I just want to remind you about the upcoming event at the Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Reservation. So far, there has only been one member who responded to joining our fellow federationists on a cultural expedition and fun-filled afternoon. We need more people. How about you!

I wrote to Cheryl Fields about this event, and I thought I might share this with you.

"Recently, I contacted Janelle Reardon, an information specialist at the
metro parks Rocky River Nature Center to discuss whether and when we can arrange
a program of nature and exploration for the blind community. With enthusiasm in
her voice and with a can-do attitude, Janelle stepped up to the plate and
suggested a nature hike of about one to two miles, featuring a professional
naturalist that would introduce us to the animals and plants in the area.

In addition, we will climb a Woodland Indian Earth Works up 135 steps where
we will examine the artifacts and learn about survival and life during those
times. You can choose just to hike, but if you climb those steps, you will
accept a challenge you won't soon forget!

We need from ten to 30 people to make this program a success, so ask anyone
you know, blind or sighted, to come along and ask them to bring a friend.

What: Nature hike and cultural life of the Woodland Indians.

When: July 3, 2013 at 1 p.m.

Where: 24000 Valley Parkway, North Olmsted, Ohio

Directions: Contact Rapid Transit Authority at (216) 781-1110 or (216)
621-9500 for public transportation or book a trip with Paratransit. If you
can't find the directions, I will post them as we get nearer to the event.

We have done two other nature hikes with the Cuyahoga Chapter in the past at
the Brecksville Reservation Nature Center, and we all had fun. Afterward, we
went out to eat--we like completing the day with a nice full belly. The first
time we went to Panera Bread and the next time we ate at the Southwest General
Hospital cafeteria because that's where the hike ended. This time, however,
there won't be any restaurants near the park, so some of us are bringing a
bag lunch and treating it like a picknic.

Just think: Getting away from the hustle and bustle of urban living and absorbing the tranquility of nature as you listen to birdsongs, stroll along the trail laden with plants and flowers and breathe in the fresh air! At the end of our walk, we can eat our lunch under the trees and enjoy each other's company.

If you want to get away from it all, even for a brief time, call me at (216) 939-0502 for more details.

IN the meantime, take care and see you then!

Milena
