This is an impassioned plea for Senator Portman to support S. 346, the Space
Available bill that would allow retired service personnel with 100 percent
service-connected disabilities to join the other veteran groups who have
the right to travel on military aircraft when space is available. These men
and women were totally disabled before they had a chance to put in their 20
years. They have already given more than most of us ever will for our
country, and their lives have been transformed and limited by their new
disabilities. The House has folded its version of this bill into the
National Defense Authorization Act  with all but five of Ohio's
representatives as cosponsors of H.R. 164. Please urge your boss to
cosponsor S. 346 and support the effort to amend the National Defense
Authorization Act to include this bill so that these veterans can obtain
this assistance. 

 

Surely Mr. Portman can have no objection to assisting disabled veterans in
this way. I hope to hear soon that he has signed onto Senator Baucus's bill.
