National Federation of the Blind of Ohio Buckeye Update
April 18, 20014
It is a nice spring day, and it is Easter weekend. I hope you all have a very happy Easter.
We had a good call for chapter and division presidents and treasurers Tuesday night. These calls give us the opportunity to talk about what is happening at the local level, to share success as well as problems, and to find out how we can be of help.
On Wednesday, I went to Dayton to work with a man who is almost 92 years old. He was driving until about four years ago. I demonstrated NFB-NEWSLINE, JAWS, and talked about how blind people do things. We talked about the Miami Valley chapter, and although I don’t think he will be a regular at meetings, I do think he might come to some special events such as the spaghetti dinner.
Our Malley's fund raiser is finished. I want to thank everyone who participated. I will have sales totals for the board meeting.
I mentioned to presidents that so far we have not gotten the kind of support for BELL that we had last year. We have not received many contributions from chapters and divisions so far. We are working to find funding, but if we don’t have the support of chapters and divisions we will not be able to have a BELL program in 2015. We want to expand the program, but that will not be possible without your help. Talk about this in your meetings, and see what you can do to help.
We are bringing the newsletter to a close soon. If you need to get an article to Barbara, please do it immediately. We need Buckeye Briefs. Let us know what’s going on in your chapters and divisions.
Remember that the next meeting of the board of director’s will be on Saturday, April 26 at 10:00 AM. We will meet by conference call. Call (605) 475-4875. Use access code 201909 followed by pound. Please join us even if you are not on the board.

Please do what you can to help us distribute our Ohio scholarship application. If you need the application again, please contact Deborah Kendrick. dkkendrick at earthlink.net

Sherry tells me we have five Jernigan tickets that have not been requested. Remember that proceeds from the sale of these tickets help us get first time attendees to the National Convention. Let’s do our part and sell all of the tickets we have been given.
Have a great Easter. I will not write next week, but I hope to talk to you during the board meeting.
