Hello all,

One of the goals of the Ohio Association of Blind Students is to serve
as a resource for blind students, and to promote education of blind
youth in any way possible. At the end of our board meeting in
September, it was discussed that the parents division and the student
division should collaborate in the future. This is our first attempt
at doing so.

While OABS is geared more towards students who will be entering high
school in a short period of time, high school students, and college
students at the undergraduate and graduate levels (grades 7 and up),
we want to help students of all ages succeed, so that they can build
on prior knowledge and be off to a good start for future learning.
Therefore, we will extend an open invitation to parents and families
of blind children to stop by our meeting on Saturday Nov 1 from
1:15-1:45 to chat, ask questions, and get to know us. I anticipate
that by 1:15 business of the division will either be finished or
nearly done, and I'm hoping that the students will at least have a
half an hour to mix and mingle before leaving around 1:50 to drop off
things we no longer need in our rooms before heading to general
session.

If you know of a parent or family member of a blind child that will be
coming to the convention, I would be happy to talk to them in advance
of the convention as well. I can be reached at
kaiti.shelton at gmail.com, and can also give the person my cell phone
number if they'd like to talk voice-to-voice. For general information
about the division, interested parties can email oabs.nfb at gmail.com
and an officer will respond promptly.
