[Ohio-talk] iphone and voiceover

Hi,
Unless you have a mobility impairment which prevents you from using the screen, it is best, although not necessary, to learn the touchscreen gestures. However, AT Guys sells a screen protector that makes this process easier by adding dots to your screen. National Braille Press sells a few resources in Braille that will help you learn your iPhone. The iPhone is not the only alternative for a smartphone, but it is the easiest to learn in my opinion. It also will depend on what you want to do with your phone. If you don’t want all the advanced features of the iPhone, it really won’t offer much for you other than a lot of frustration. You can use bluetooth keyboards and Braille displays with your phone, although they cannot perform all functions of the device.
Hope this helps.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.

I tried out an iphone at the apple store as well as someone else's. I know you can buy a usb keyboard, but my counselor thinks this is unnecessary. Therefore, is there any other way I can use the iphone without having to use the finger gestures? I know they make a tactile cover where you can feel the buttons, but I've yet to find the company who makes this. Anyone who has an iphone or know someone who has one, what are my options if I cannot execute the finger gestures? They just don't work for me and I would get very frustrated every time I used my phone if I had to do it this way. Any alternatives would be greatly appreciated.
