I have just contacted both senate offices. The people to contact are gideon_bragin at brown.senate.gov <mailto:gideon_bragin at brown.senate.gov> and brian_riedl at portman.senate.gov <mailto:brian_riedl at portman.senate.gov>. Below is the message that I sent except that after the word “please” I inserted “encourage Senator (name) to” support…. This is easy to do. Please take the time to send your message to both of our senators.

Here is the message from Parnell Diggs’s email:

Please support two edits (which might be thought of as technical amendments) to the SSDI provisions of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015.

1. Amend Section 822 so that SSDI beneficiaries can participate in the demonstration project upon request.

2. Amend Section 823 by replacing all references to the term “”Impairment-Related Work Expenses” for blind beneficiaries” with the term “”Blind Work Expenses,”” which are broader and more favorable and are already available in the SSI program.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
