Subject: [Ohio-talk] {Spam?} accessible prescription information from Envision America

Hi everyone,

I am aware that some blind people did not attend this year's National Convention in Orlando, Florida.

En-Vision America is a company I spoke today at our Cincinnati chapter meeting. I talked about ways that a blind person can access their prescription information in braille, large print, or audio. For my example, I use a combination of braille and audio for my needs since I am deaf-blind. Currently I am taking 5 different medications for various ailments such as, cholesterol, thyroid issues, bladder issues, diabetes, and blood pressure. In addition I have sleep apnea in which I take Hetlioz from Vanda Pharmaceutical which is one of our sponsors at this year's national convention. I also use a CPack machine when I sleep at night to help with breathing. I had a sleep study performed in january 2015 while Bob Marquardt was in the hospital and nursing home facilities. I received my machine right about the time when Bob was dying under hospice care. That was a difficult time for me to start learning how to operate the machine.

Below is the information you'll need to sign up for prescripption service in braille, audio or large print or a combination of formats needed.

If anyone is taking multiple medications and you are not getting information on your prescriptions in an accessible form such as braille, print, or audio, you should request this at your local pharmacy. At this time, Walgreens, and Krogers do not have any service available for accessible prescription to my knowledge however, I had a friend of mine in our chapter that is going to follow through on this.
You can get accessible prescription information through Walmart, CVS Caremark, and many others. Below is a list of pharmacies and their contact information. Many insurance companies are encouraging patients to order their medicines in 90 day supplies since it is lower in cost than 30 day supplies. Mail order is the way to go since it can be brought to your home or work depending on where you live such as a house or apartment. Some mail carriers will not leave package at home if no one is there especially if it requires a signature.

Participating Pharmacies

Many pharmacies in the U.S. and Canada are now offering accessible medication labels, specifically for their blind and visually-impaired patients, including Talking Labels, Large Print, and Braille.

Rite Aid now offers ScripTalk, ScripView, and Braille at all Locations!

Be sure to contact Envision America for the latest list of pharmacies in your area.

If anyone have questions for me, you can contact me at home phone (513)
931-7070 or cell phone (513) 550-5155 or send an email to lhall007 at cinci.rr.com. Since I am a user of ScripTalk, Braille labels, and ID Mate Quest and Omni, I hope I can anser all your questions. I haven't upgraded to the Galaxy model since it is the latest on the market. It is my understanding that it's smaller than previous models on the market.

Take care everyone.

Sincerely,

Lisa Hall, Cincinnati, Ohio
