You may have heard that we now have a companion bill to the Space Available Act in the house. this means that We need calls and emails to the Senators’ staffs. In Brown’s office this is jonathan_miller at brown.senate.gov <mailto:jonathan_miller at brown.senate.gov>, and in Portman’s office it is allen_ernst at portman.senate.gov. The bill number is S. 2596 introduced by Dean Heller (RNV). I have dropped in below my message to Brown’s staff. Please do what you can to make it clear to our senators that we expect them to co-sponsor this legislation.

Members of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio met with Leah Hill during the snow storm in late January. She assured us that she would pass on to you our fact sheet about H.R. 2264, which would assist all 100-percent-disabled veterans with service-connected injuries access to military flights as space is available. Senator Dean Heller has just introduced S. 2596 of which Senator Tester was an original co-sponsor. This is the Senate version of H.R. 2264. The fact sheet provides the information necessary for Senator Brown’s consideration of adding his support. For your convenience I have attached that fact sheet to this email.

Sherrod has been supportive of our issues in the past, and I hope that he will decide to add his name to the list of co-sponsors on this bill. I look forward to hearing from one of you about his decision. Our hope is to fold this legislation into the NDAA before it is voted on. I hope that Sherrod will act soon.

Cordially,
Barbara Pierce

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
