Subject: [Ohio-talk] Career Building & Exchange Symposium

2016 National Federation of the Blind of Ohio

70th Anniversary Convention

November 12, 2016

6200 Quarry Lane, Independence, Ohio

Dear Attendees,

I would like to invite you to a break-out session that will address barriers
in regards to seeking or transitioning into competitive employment.
This endeavor that I have labeled, "Career Building & Exchange Symposium" is
to highlight, emphasize and spark a serious dialogue about the steps that is
needed for the blind to become a successful interviewer, job seeker and
network builder. When job searching, interviewing and taking assessments
are focal points in obtaining a job, it can be depressing, humiliating and
scary if one does not have the tools to be productive. I am asking you to
join me on November 12, 2016 from 3:30 to 5:00 P.M. in Petit A and B at the
address above to enhance, empower and educate those who are touched by this
inhibition.

The goal is to introduce and build on tools that will create front-runners
in a modality behavior that fosters personal growth, consciousness, gets
results, and provides structure. We will focus on four points,

A. Cognitive Well-Being

B. Physical Well-Being

C. Emotional Well-Being

D. social well-being

Why these four elements, you ask?

Because if you don't have health, you've got depletion, exhaustion, perhaps
even illness, and then it's really hard to make ANY changes in your life
when you feel like crap or have no energy.

This is not about nutrition, but on the art and science of habit change.
Because, these habits are what determines your health, your relationships at
home, in the work arena and in everything else you do.

There will be Mediators who will be asked to facilitate a serious dialogue
to where the attendees will feel comfortable, relaxed and receptive. This
is an interchange between the audience and a qualified moderator. Below are
the list of topics and Mediators. If you have any questions, please feel
free to contact me by phone.

Suzanne Turner and Tylar Hartfield

Dick Davis: National NFB Employment Chairperson / Blind Inc.

Barbara Pierce, Board Member / NFB Ohio President Emerita

Career Exploration:

Alexis Vickers, Manager of Career Services /Cleveland Sight Center

Sourcing and Networking

Janice Hannah-Hardy, Career Services Director / the Ohio Media School
Cleveland Campus

The First Impression

Wilbert Turner, Former Manager for IRS / Customer Service Representative

Because, it is more than just getting a job that seems to be a hindrance for
the blind, I want all involved to expound on the barriers and importance of
socialization, everyday living skills and confidence building in this Job
event. Although, it is too late for me to organize a Job Fair, but working
toward this opportunity for the blind is my next upcoming venture. I am
hoping to establish the ground work and then move this population into
attending a Job Fair in 2017.

Finally, the Exchange: which will consist of a dialogue of interviewing
Skills, self-esteem building, socialization barriers and test taking will
be a great opportunity for the blind to voice their concerns and receive
direct answers and techniques from all mediators. I am confident that their
expertise will shape the lives of the blind and if well received, can be
passed along to others. As we move closer to this event, please consider
attending and spreading the word about this Symposium.

Thank you in advance for your participation. I am looking forward to seeing
you in November!

Suzanne
