Marianne, I think that's what I said. I think that this shows that OOD is
not measuring up to  its purpose of helping blind people to become
independent. Not independent in employment skills and not independent in
homemaking skills.

Cheryl, the purpose of OOD is to find employment for people with
disabilities. Anything they do is related to this. We need to make an
argument that independence is absolutely necessary to find and maintain
employment. OOD will make the argument that you can be employed and live
with a sighted person so you don't need independence skills. That sighted
person can read your mail, write your checks, cook your meals, provide
transportation...so independence isn't needed. We definitely disagree with
this position. But we need to find a way to relate everything back to
employment or independent living for people who are visually impaired over
55 in the IL program.

OOD stands for Opportunities for Ohioans With Disabilities. It used to be
Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired or BSVI. I apologize for using
just the letters.
