ATTENDING A STATE CONVENTION IS THE SINGLE MOST CONSTRUCTIVE STEP YOU CAN TAKE IF YOU ARE NEWLY BLIND OR ARE JUST FEELING DISCOURAGED DEALING WITH BLINDNESS EVERY DAY. YOU MEET PEOPLE COPING WITH THE SAME ISSUES THAT YOU ARE IN A FACILITY IN WHICH BEING BLIND PUTS YOU IN THE MAJORITY. YOU CAN OBSERVE PEOPLE EFFECTIVELY SOLVING PROBLEMS THAT BAFFLE YOU. YOU HEAR INSPIRATIONAL TALKS AND HAVE THE CHANCE TO UNITE WITH OTHERS TO CHANGE THE WAY THE COMMUNITY VIEWS US. YOU RETURN HOME ENERGIZED AND READY TO WORK.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
