Awesome news!! I landed a seasonal job with Joan Fabrics!! Along with JCP barely working there, this new job opportunity is a blessing and will help saving cash for future conventions!!

I think it is great that OOD is doing this but there are 2 problems with
the Cincinnati location. 1. the address is not correct. It is 11355 Chester
Road. 2. No public transportation or paratransit goes to that location so
you must depend on a taxi, rideshare, family or friend to take you. How
independent and capable does that look?

Good morning,
I am interested in knowing why a Dayton job fair was not put together? I can easily make it to Cincinnati and probably make it to Columbus but I wonder about those who live in this area who will not be able to make it to either?
Mr. President, when you get a chance can you give me a phone call? I wonder how many people from Dayton would like to go to the Cincinnati job fair? Perhaps this is not even a real neat because no one from this area wishes to go but if it is, I would like to see what we can do to accommodate them.

Okay, times are totally backward. If it is 1:00 Pacific time it is 2:00
Mountain time, 3:00 Central time and 4:00 Eastern time. The west coast is 3
hours behind us, not three hours ahead of us.

Good question Chris. I guess it is assumed that people in Dayton are close
enough to travel to one of the other cities. I thought OOD said they
understand the transportation issues of many people with disabilities,
especially those with severe disabilities. But the one in Cincinnati is not
accessible to many people who live here.

Okay, times are totally backward. If it is 1:00 Pacific time it is 2:00 Mountain time, 3:00 Central time and 4:00 Eastern time. The west coast is 3 hours behind us, not three hours ahead of us.

I was invited to this event by my counselor and when I asked if there were
jobs available for my particular field, she said no. So, I asked her why
would I want to take the time and effort to make it over to the job fair,
she did not have an answer for me. I then asked if there were a way to get a
list of potential employers attending the fair and she did not know. So, if
anyone is planning on attending, first find out if your particular job
search field will be represented by calling OOD.
Best Regards,

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.

Building the Federation for the Future!
Cheryl E. Fields
Awards Committee Chair
Description of 2017 NFB Ohio Awards
1. The Chapter Gavel Award will go to the outstanding chapter
Of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio in 2017 and the
Division Gavel Award will go to the most effective division. See the
attached memo for detailed
Information about the award for your group. The division and chapter
Gavel Award recipients will receive $50 along with a certificate. The
chapter or division
That wins the Gavel Award three times consecutively will receive a
plaque and a gavel. If the Awards Committee decides that a chapter or
division has conducted
An outstanding activity, that chapter or division will receive a
$25prize plus an opportunity to make a presentation describing the
activity during the convention.
In order for members of any chapter or division to vote at the
convention this year, all reports must be submitted by October 1,
2017, even if you choose not to
Compete for the Gavel Award.
If you are not competing, please send your report to President Richard
Payne by email: rchpay7 at gmail.com.
2. The Chapter on the Move Award is presented to a chapter that
demonstrates significant growth in philosophy and fundamental
Federation activities.
3. The Alfonso Smith Award is presented to the outstanding blind
Federationist for service to the blind of Ohio. Please note that this
is a statewide award, so
The service should be statewide to be considered. A letter describing
the accomplishments of your nominee for this award must be sent to the
awards committee
By October 1, 2017 for consideration.
4. The Ruth Garwood Award is presented to an outstanding sighted
person for service to blind people across the state.
This person need not be a Federationist. A letter describing your
candidate's work with the blind must be sent to the awards committee
by October 1, 2017 for consideration.
5.
The Knall-Garwood Award is presented to a Federationist for long and
loyal service to the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio. This
does mean long and
Loyal service to the state affiliate and not to an individual or local
chapter. A letter describing your candidate's work with the
organization must be sent
By October 1, 2017 to the awards committee in order to be considered.
The awards committee makes the following requests to those preparing
materials. Please type
Nomination letters and reports. When it is appropriate in answering
the questions for either Gavel Award, please outline in the form of
sentences. Only one
Question requires that the answers be in paragraph form. In completing
your entry for the Gavel Award, please answer to the best of your
ability. Make sure to check your spelling and grammar so that
Your chapter or division will receive the maximum number of points
available for each question. I recommend that you appoint a small
committee to complete
The form; a group effort often has an advantage.
Send all applications and letters to Robert Spangler at
spangler.robert at gmail.com.
Before midnight on Sunday October 1, 2017.
The awards committee is available until Sunday September 25, 2017 to
proof read your documents with you prior to the Sunday October 1
deadline. This step is not a requirement but, is available for your
convenience. All awards committee members are available to answer
questions until the Sunday October 1, 2017 deadline.
Should you need additional information please contact me Cheryl Fields
at cherylelaine1957 at gmail.com ph. 216-566-4317. You will find contact

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Now, let's begin working

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back
