Good Day Ohio,
The Gavel Report applications were delivered to your in boxes this week.
The awards Committee appreciates your patience and support.
The committee would love to award chapters, divisions and individuals
with every possible award for 2018.
The competition is stiff, The Division Gavel Award has been held by
the Ohio Association of Guide Dog Users for the last 5 years.
The Capital Chapter has held the Chapter Gavel Award for 2 years!
Cleveland received bragging rights for being the 2018 Chapter on the Move!
OK, Ohio Chapters and Divisions let’s have some friendly competition!
Begin working on your reports early, make sure to fill out each
section, neatness and grammar count.
In addition to the Gavel Awards, there are 3 other awards that any
federationist can submit.
1. The Alphonso Smith Award is presented to an outstanding Blind
Federationist for their statewide service.
2.
3. The Ruth Garwood Award is presented to an outstanding sighted
person for their statewide service to the blind.
4. The Knall-Garwood Award is presented to a Federationist for long
and loyal service to the Ohio State Affiliate.
Give these awards some thought, talk it over with fellow
Federationists around the state and write that letter!
Who are the movers and shakers of the Ohio Affiliate?
For a complete description and instructions for each award, see the
attached document. Read it carefully and send your submissions and
reports by October 1st, 2018.
Chapter and Division Presidents if you have not received the Gavel
application give me a phone call today and it will be sent to you.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create
obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life
you want; blindness is not what holds you back.

A man has made at least a start on discovering the meaning of human
life when he plants shade trees under which he knows full well he will
never sit.
