The NFB Braille Literacy program is getting ready to begin. We have our
mentors and it was a very hard decision because we had ver 20 highly
qualified applicants. They will meet in Columbus on Saturday, February 10,
so mentors can learn about the program and expectations.
We have several student applications but we hope to find more adults in
Ohio who are motivated to learn uncontracted Braille. Students are required
to attend one student weekend. The first student weekend will be in Daton
on March 16-18. The following weekend, March 23-25, students will come to
Columbus for their training. April 13-15, training will be in Toledo and
April 27-29, students will meet in Cleveland. All training except the one
weekend training students will not need to travel.
We know people are spreading the word because we have several potential
students. Please share this information with legally blind adults you know,
no matter where they live in Ohio. Most of our students are located in
large cities but we want to get the word out to people who live in rural
counties, too.
Students do not need to be members of NFB or be a consumer through OOD. The
only requirements are that they must be 14 years of age or older and be
legally blind. All materials will be provided. If you have any questions
please contact Debbie Baker at bakerdebra53 at gmail.com or Marianne Denning
at Marianne at denningweb.com. Thank you for your assistance.
