[Ohio-talk] The Dintech Cane

Milena and all,
My first reaction upon seeing this message was, "Oh, this is probably
something I should review for AccessWorld."
But look at the web site!
The language there is just so incredibly offensive.
People "suffering" from blindness, "afflicted' with low vision, and getting
this device to avoid loneliness?
A device that will help me find the bedroom or the living room? Seriously?

And, yes, I sometimes am sad that I don't have enough friends around, but I
don't want an electronic device to be my friend to go for a walk with me!

(Got enough of those talking electronics with Alexa, Siri, Jaws, and my
Victor Trek!)
Anyway, if anyone tries this out, I'd be interested to hear, but I think I
personally can't get past the attitude.
Oh, and they say they can direct a person from the New York airport to
Germany, which has all manner of flaws. There is no airport called New York
Airport. And it does not mention including a life jacket or water wings to
get one across the mighty pond.
Just sayin...

Deborah

I wonder what happens to the device in the rain. That is usually the
downfall of these gadgets.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
