JW I would like to take the time to thank you and the committee for
all your hard work. I think this year's selection of winners reflect who we
are and just how important this program is. Great job team I can't wait
until the state convention.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back

Subject: [Ohio-talk] Introducing the 2018 NFB of Ohio Scholarship Winners

Dear NFB of Ohio Family, Friends, and Colleagues,

As some of us prepare to head to Orlando, FL next week for our national
convention, I would like to introduce you to our NFB of Ohio Scholarships
winners for this year. First, I am indebted to my scholarship committee
members Barbra Pierce, Bob Pierce, Emily Pennington, and Lucas Cassi for
their hard work and diligence to this point. It is a joy to work with them
and as you might expect, our task was not an easy one. After reviewing all
of the submitted applications, the following three excellent students were
selected.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!!!

The winners are, in alphabetical order:
Michael Molchan, Lillie Pennington, and Robert Sabwami.

Michael Molchan is a double major in Finance and Business Economics at Miami
University. As a teaser, here are the first few lines from Mr. Molchan's
submitted essay:
"'Steve Jobs once said: You cannot connect the dots looking forward; you can
only connect them looking backwards.' Steve Jobs had to trust that somehow,
someway, his dots would connect. How I deal with blindness can be explained
in two words: dots and trust'"

Lillie Pennington will be attending Northern Kentucky University next year
and majoring in Social Work. As a teaser, here is a paragraph from the
letter recommendation for Ms. Pennington from Anil Lewis:
"In my opinion, Lillie works best alone, and requires little supervision.
Her strength is research and when given a task, she performs best when she
has the opportunity to investigate the various parameters in order to gain
an enhanced understanding of the project. Lillie also works well in a group,
and she generally serves as the anchor of the group. Her reasoned approach
toward a task helps to balance those that may attempt a riskier solution"

Robert Sabwami is going to school at Wright State University to be an
intervention specialist in special education. As a teaser, please check out
the link to this provocative documentary which features Mr. Sabwami:

Undoubtedly, you will be hearing more about these excellent students and I
know you join me in congratulating them and conveying to them how excited we
are to have them be a part of our state convention this year in every
aspect!
