Richard
Looking forward to attending the National Convention for the first time and hope I get a lot out of it and it’s a learning  and life long experience for Me!! So thankful for the Jerrigan scholarship that will help greatly for the trip. I know need to hook up with other bling and visually impaired artists, hopefully I’ll run into them. Thanks

I sent this message out yesterday, but it did not reach the list so here it
is again.
Hello Ohio to day I called off work and took the bus early this morning to
testify about the importance of our bill HB 309. I think Heather for
testifying also and Mike and Shelbi for the great support as a team. Suzanne
Sherri and Barba sent in written testimony we should have done better but to
those who did the work thanks and keep it up.  The powers were listening and
even told us a story about walking with blind people in a cane walk. This
bill will gain even more support and I am encouraged even more knowing that
our voices are being heard.

The other great news is by coincidence we were able to hear the conformation
of the governor's appointment of Dr. Peters to the civil rights commission.
We should be very proud that she  received this job. I am encouraged to know
that a blind person got this chance and it is my pleasure to get to know her
and to continue to work with such a wonderful person.

We also learned to day that a bill is circulating around the state that is
very similar to HR. 620 in the federal legislation. Sherri and the
legislative team will be reviewing this bill and we will need quick action
from you to kill this bill.

I regret that due to lack of strong volunteers this year we had to postpone
the BELL program for this year and it was one of the hardest decisions that
I have made while being your president. We will build a better and stronger
program but will ask that when you are asked to volunteer you do so. To the
handful of team leaders that have volunteered for several years you have
done a great job and was ready this year so get your rest and let's look
forward to next year.

I hope you are making your arrangements for the national convention and I
look to see you in Orlando.

My phone always rings for you and this email address is open to receive your
questions and help. Thanks for what you do to build the federation.

Hello Ohio, I would like to thank everyone who sold candy and those that
sold tickets for the flying pig event. You know that I cannot believe that
Tom Ruth sold so many tickets and that Suzanne Turner along with Deanna
Lewis were top sellers. I will leave it up to Sherry Ruth and Lucas to give
you the final total. I said at the end of the flying pig event that I would
award a gift card to the person that could sale more tickets than I could.
Well because the candy sells went so well and several of you worked so hard
on the flying pig tickets I put all names in to the drawing and we now have
two winners.

    Convention Assistance Form
Message-ID: <028901d3f34b$be540330$3afc0990$@gmail.com>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

I did send this form out weeks ago and several people have already made
request and because I am getting emails at this late date here it is again.
I know that people received this because again I already got request. Please
understand that you should already have made most of your arrangements by
now.
National Federation of the Blind of Ohio 2018 Convention Assistance Form

The 2018 National Federation of the Blind convention will be held Tuesday,
July 3-Sunday, July 8, at the beautiful Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in
Orlando Florida; which is located at 9939 Universal Boulevard, Orlando,
Florida 32819-9357.

Preregistration is now open!
When purchased online by May 31, the preregistration fee for convention is
$25 ($30 on-site) and the cost of a banquet ticket is $65 ($70 on-site.)

The 2018 room rates!
The singles and doubles are $88; and triples and quads are $93. In addition
to the room rates, there will be a tax, which at present is 12.5 percent. No
charge will be made for children under seventeen in the room with parents if
no extra bed is requested. For 2018 convention room reservations, you can
call the hotel at (866) 996-6338 <tel:(866)%20996-6338> . You may also write
directly to the Rosen Shingle Creek, 9939 Universal Boulevard, Orlando,
Florida 32819-9357. The hotel will want a deposit of $100 for each room and
a credit card number or a personal check. If you use a credit card, the
deposit will be charged against your card immediately, just as would be the
case with a $100 check. If a reservation is cancelled before Friday, June 1,
2018, only half of the deposit will be returned; otherwise refunds will not
be made.

Due to limited Ohio affiliate resources, we are only able
to offer partial assistance to those who qualify, and we are working on a
budget. So, it would serve you best to get your request in before the
allotted funds are gone.

NOTE!
Assistance requests must be submitted to President Richard Payne before May
25, 2018. Any application forms received after that date will not be
considered. If you have any questions about the form or the process, contact
president Payne by email at: rchpay7 at gmail.com <mailto:rchpay7 at gmail.com>
or call (937)396-5573.

By the way:
For anyone receiving convention assistance, you will be expected to attend
all general sessions, meetings and workshops. While attending the
convention, if you do not follow those instructions; this will way heavy on
your applications for assistance in the future. Additionally, there will
also be various volunteer positions available that you will be expected to
get involved in.

How to apply for Convention Assistance!
please answer all the questions in detail. One question may decide the
difference in the amount or even if you will receive assistance.

First, please submit a personal request letter by explaining why you wish to
attend the convention and what you hope to accomplish. Since financial need
is the basis for this request, briefly describe the extenuating
circumstances that are preventing you from attending convention. This will
be a major consideration in the decision-making process.

Secondly, contact your chapter or division president and ask him/her to send
a letter of support for your application directly to President Richard
Payne. This letter must also state what assistance, if any, you will be
receiving from that chapter or division. NOTE: If you are not yet a member
of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio, you must call President
Payne for an interview by phone at (937)396-5573.

Please answer the following to your best abilities.
1.    Describe in detail how you have been involved in state fundraising.

2.    What part do you take in keeping your local chapter engaged in the

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back
