Wilma Smith-Sloan was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, July 20,1921.  At the
age of five she and her family relocated to South Bend, Indiana.

 

Wilma was the sixth child of seven siblings.  Her father was the famed Verly
Smith, a professional trainer forNoter Dame University, with Coach Knute
Rockny.  During her childhood, Wilma loved riding the universities hourses
and became an Equestrian rider.

At the age of 16, Wilma's mother succumbed to complications of a serious
diabetic condition, and at the age of 18 she moved toDayton, OH

She lived with her Hathcock cousins where she met her future husband Richard
H. Sloan Jr (deceased).   This marital union produced three  children,
Richard Hartzell Sloan III (Jerrie), Wanda Marie Sloan and Roland James
Sloan.

Wilma loved to cook and entertain, always trying a new recipe.  Being the
wife of a Debonair Club member, Wilma loved to attend many dances and
party's; Jitterbugging was one of her favorite dances.  Grilling food and
serving was just a past - time.   

During her childhood maturation, Wilma was a member of The First AME Zion
Church, South Bend, Ind.

As an adult, living in Dayton, OH. She, for 75 years, periodically attended
The Wayman AME Chapel Church.

 

Wilma was retired as a Break Inspector for Delco Moraine plant,  Dayton, OH.

 

In addition to her family from the Sloan and Tucker family , (Gerald Robert,
William Bryant and Cynthia Ann Tucker) Robinson and Hathcock families, she
also morn to rest , close family friends, Pauline Hackley,  Lois Crutcher,
Lawrence V. Head Jr.  Lindsey and Loren Smith, Delores Wise ,Versie
Washington and  Mamie and Thomas Taylor (South Bend, Ind).
