[Ohio-talk] Braille literacy

I am working with two Braille students, and each of them in her own way reminds me of why Braille is so important. I am proud of how hard both of them are working.I feel incredibly lucky that I was taught Braille at twelve. It is a real privilege to have a part in opening this mystery to these women. Literacy is such a valuable gift. No parent should prevent their blind child from mastering it. I am dead serious when I tell them to call me whenever they get stuck. There are always frustrations in learning the code. The least we can do is to clear up the puzzles whenever they occur.

Good luck to all the new students,
Barbara

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise expectations for blind people because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and their dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
