Hi Michael,
I saw you all shared the post but wanted to send you the messaging, which I’ve copied and pasted below. To summarize, we still have to see the sub bill, which we expect to come out next week. We talked to Senator O’Brien’s office today, who is a democrat, but he he said that he was told the amendment would be accepted. The best thing I think you could tell the Senator about the language is that you hope she supports the language remaining out through conference committee. Thank you again for all of your support with this. Inviting Kunze was such a brilliant idea!

Big news! According to The Columbus Dispatch, the budget language that would have undermined DRO’s independence is set to be removed!

Thank YOU for making a difference. We heard from legislators that their offices were receiving calls and emails telling them that a world without DRO was harmful to the disability community. We also want to thank those organizations that rallied to our side and expressed support either publicly or through grassroots efforts – National Federation of the Blind of Ohio, clients Becky Syner and Shelbi Hindel, DRO Board Members Sue Wills and Walt Asbury, SABE, The Ohio State University Nisonger Center, UC UCEDD, Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council, the Olmstead Taskforce, The Arc of Ohio, The Center for Disability Empowerment and many others who weighed in and shared our emails and social media posts to their network.

We will remain vigilant as the budget process continues soon to conference committee, where the House and Senate will meet to work out a compromise budget.

This effort has demonstrated the power of the disability community. When we come together, change can happen. DRO will continue to work hard to be a strong, independent organization that supports and advances the legal, civil, and human rights of people with disabilities.

It is the Senate Finance Hearing room on the first floor of the Statehouse, but it does not have a number. The hearing starts at 10:00 am. Also, I have not heard from anyone else about testimony.

Yes, sorry for the delay, I was stuck in meetings. I thought your testimony was great. I just did some reformatting to the font so it fills up the page, but let me know if you want to change it back or do anything differently so you can read it.  Lisa,
Can you tell me if you have any submissions from anybody else from the national Federation of the blind?  I am trying to encourage people to testify either written or orally, but I’m not sure I have gotten anybody to do so. Can you tell me of my submission was OK? Let me know because I know that we have to get it in today so that it will be ready for Tuesday’s testimony correct? Would forward to hearing from you. Thank you for all your help.
