Ohio,

Below is an audio of Dr. Kenneth Jernigan giving a banquet speech in Las
Angeles in 1976.

If you want to know more about the philosophy of the National Federation of
the Blind and the principal we stand on. I challenge you to listen to this
profound and accurate account of why we fight so hard not to take a back
seat in life.

This speech also mentions Barbara Pierce who had, in my opinion, one of the
worst experiences in a cab with an ignorant driver.

Curious? Just listen!

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
