My favorite alternate name for a long white cane is "blind stick." It's so
silly, it's hard to feel offended by that one.

Hello Marianne, thanks for sharing this.  I haven't heard of using colored
canes as a way of classifying different levels of vision.  When I was
growing up, I had a cane with red tape at the bottom.  This was not because
of having low vision, but I was told that the red tape helps drivers spot me
while navigating outside.  I use what the author of this blog article calls
a "Classic all white cane," and believe that if any driver cannot see this
large cane, they probably need to get their eyes checked.  

Who calls their cane a "blindness cane" anyway?  Some of the vocabulary was
a little strange.
