Hi Cheryl,
I like the Voice Dream Scanner app for reading mail or other written
material. I use it on an iPhone but it has an Android version as well. The
cost of the app on both platforms is $5.99. You take a picture of the
document and the text is read aloud to you. You can choose to save the
picture with formatting as a pdf file or save it as plain text. The app
works very well. The developer, Winston Chen, also has a great reading app
called Voice Dream Reader.
Another option for reading written material in iOS only is Seeing AI by
Microsoft. This app is free and includes a short text channel which is great
for reading mail and will start reading when the device is held over a
document without even taking a picture. It also has channels for Document,
Product, Person, Currency, Scene, Color, Handwriting, And Light. Each of
those channels do the following:
. Document. Scan and read longer documents.
. Product. Bar code reader for product identification.
. Person. Identify people based on saved photos and names.
. Currency. Currency identifier.
. Scene. Describes surroundings in your present scene.
. Color. Color identifier.
. Handwriting. Reads handwriting such as found on a greeting card.
. Light. Light detector.
Good luck.

Does anyone out there use an app with an iPhone or an android phone to take
a picture of written material and hear it read to them? If so, what app do
you like and is there a difference between how well it performs on iPhone or
android?
Also, does anyone out there use bar code reader apps? Which work best?
Cheryl
