To I hate to be that guy, but I would be very surprised if anybody with a disability of blindness would receive a job offer from customs and border protection let it alone the department of homeland security. Are used to work for customs for about 10 years and that particular government agency is using legacy main frames that are completely in accessible to screen readers including jaws. That agency does not know the word of reasonable accommodation, and to my knowledge there’s a few blind people that still work there, but they all have difficulties there. If you are offered a job there expect low to no promotion potential. I know getting a job is very important, maybe things have changed with customs since Sensi last works there, but I had lawyers from Brown Gold Steen and Leavy accompany me through several depositions and depositions of high officials, and those lawyer said that this was the worst that they had ever seen before. So my word of advice takes a job document everything, you’ll need to do that. I was successful in a lawsuit against customs and border protection because I did document every mistake they made, not only will you not be able to access computer systems, they will not honor your request for a reasonable accommodation, and if they do they will provide you with some old piece of hardware or software that they had in storage. In addition when you start to complain or say your concerns, it will instantly turn into a hostile work environment. I don’t usually refer people to this, because I’d like to leave this in the past. But if he wanted to google blind individual lawsuit 508 customs and border protection and mine last name of Leiterman and you will be able to read the federal complaint all elements of that were true. These are not wild assertions that I am making, but are true statements of fact is that I had or as true as a part of the complaint process. If anybody has any questions please contact me. I just want to make sure that people know what they potentially could be getting into. I will say however working for the centers for disease control and prevention has been a complete 180 from my last experience with the federal government. I have other friends who work for other federal agenciesAnd they have had good luck with some issues. I will leave you with one last thing, federal employees fill out a employee satisfaction survey twice a year and there were 251 government agencies that reported for that survey. Customs and border protection was the 248th best government agency to work for. That means they were completely at the bottom of the list. Well enough of that for now love from Atlanta Georgia
