Hello Richard and everyone on this list,
That is really a great idea! Two thumbs up!!!
Sorry, I will not be able to join this evening, hence here are my suggestions:
To include all graduated students, namely, high school, OSSB, community college/Associate degree, Bachelor’s degree, and graduate degree, if any.
To include their families, relatives and siblings, if any.
After an introduction and the reasons about organizing such important event, which will be given by our NFB Affiliate President or any member of the Board of Directors …
Note: I am assuming an organized list of graduated students is available before the graduation celebration meeting (conference call or zoom) starts. A person should be in charge of the list and able to correctly read the names. Then, proceed as follows:
1. Start with the high school, then Associate, then OSSB, then BS/BA, and so on.
2. give 2 to 3 minutes to someone who knows the graduated student (aka mentor) to speak about the student.
3. Give each student 2 to 3 minutes to speak about his/her experience, feelings, hopes and dreams.
4. Maybe have the gift/NFB certificate delivered to them virtually (by email/texting) and/or by mail.
5. Maybe each student should be wearing his/her graduation gown and cap.
6. Maybe give the chance to students to move the tassel of the cap from one side to the other side (from right to left, I believe). I am not sure about throwing their caps in the air then collecting them.
7. Maybe picture time for each student with their families/siblings at their residence when done.at the end of the celebration.
8. Maybe all graduated students and all attendees should have some soda and cake next to them and drink/eat at the end of the celebration.
That’s all from my side.
Thanks.
Stay safe and stay healthy.
Ali

Good morning Ohio, I have asked Annette to change this to the zoom platform and the message that she sent out and also the one from Kinshuk has been included.
At our chapter meeting this past Saturday, the capital chapter talked about doing something special for this year‘s graduates at the Ohio State school for the Blind due to the fact that they are being robbed of all of their special senior moments this year because of the coronavirus. President Richard Payne Who we were happy to have at our meeting, asked if this could be and of Philly at project instead of with just the chapter. We thought this was a great idea. I have spoken to Michelle Wagner, the school principal, and found out that they have 12 graduating seniors this year. On Monday, I would like those of you who are interested to get together to try and come up with ideas of how the national Federation of the blind of Ohio can help make their graduation special. Please join us if you are interested in brainstorming ideas of what we can do and helping out with this project.
Hi,
Relating to this, the student division has already started an Adopt a Senior project and we would love to have those 12 seniors participate in it as well as more members of the affiliate. This could be something we do for the seniors at this school in addition to other things. Please let me know if you think this is a good idea to get them involved in.
Best,
Kinshuk
The call will be Monday evening at 7 o’clock. We will use the zoom platform.
Thank you for helping out with this. And everybody take care. Talk to you Monday.
