Thank you. I am leaving in about an hour and a half to go vote. I am anxious to see what I find there, but I’m confident that we will Work it out and I’ll be able to cast my ballot independently. But, I know full well I wouldn’t be able to do so without the previous work of the national Federation of the blind.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Everyday we raise the expectations of blind people because we know that low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want, blindness is not what holds you back.

I waited in line for about twenty minutes. Once I got inside I was shown a machine. I put my ballot in the machine. I told him he probably needed to press something that says audible ballot or audible ballot. The machine began to talk. I asked him where the keypad was, and he put my finger on the screen. I told him I need a physical keypad with buttons I could feel and press. He got another poll worker and they opened the machine and I was good to go. It would be nice if I didn’t have to walk them through the process, but they were willing to learn. Could all counties use more training around accessibility? I am sure they can. But, How many of us have volunteered to come in and do the training? I know I haven’t.
