I certainly hope that all those active in putting together and pulling off the convention Friday and yesterday—not to mention the pre-convention activities—are happily sleeping in this morning. It would be a mistake to call special attention to certain individuals, but I do want personally to thank the tech team, who pulled me out of trouble more than once before an important event. They were uniformly calm, not to say unflappable, in the face of my panic. They always had ideas and likely as not had already solved my particular problem.

Words cannot express my gratitude for not ever having had to conduct a virtual convention. I do want to say that I thought the Saturday morning program was particularly gripping and inspiring. Thank you to all those who opened their hearts during their presentations. Thank you for your gift to us. Scott was a splendid national rep, and it was great to have student and parent national leaders on the program. We miss a lot in the way of fellowship and in-person sharing in a virtual convention, but we certainly benefitted from having national and even international presenters.

I just wanted to tell everyone what a fine event this was and to thank all those who made it happen. If you didn’t bother to attend, it was certainly your loss.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise expectations for blind people because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and their dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
