ADA 101: 

A Basic Overview of the
Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990

According to a 2012 report by the U.S. Census Bureau entitled “Americans with Disabilities: 2010”, about 56.7 million people had a disability in 2010. This number represents nearly 20% of the U.S. population. Passed in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination of people with disabilities in almost all areas of life, including employment, state and local government programs, services and activities, and places of public accommodation.

This presentation will provide a basic overview of the ADA and address how it offers protection to people with disabilities.  Participants will be able to identify all titles of the ADA and become more familiar with its requirements.
