National Federation of the Blind - Cleveland Chapter

April 16, 2021 Minutes:

The April 2021 Chapter monthly meeting was held through zoom platform on
Friday, April 16, 2021 at 5:00 P.M. The zoom link and passcode were provided
to all members, guests, visitors and are given below in these minutes. The
reason for having this meeting through zoom platform is to adhere to
COVID-19 social distancing adopted by the National Federation of the Blind
and the local and state officials.

Welcome:

Suzanne Turner, President, welcomed all members, attendees from other
chapters and Divisions, all guests/visitors. 

Roll Call:

Suzanne Turner, President, welcomed everyone again and made sure about the
attendance of the chapter's members, guests and visitors.

The National Federation of the Blind Pledge:

William Turner, First Vice President, helped all attendees to recite the
National Federation of the Blind Pledge.

Mending and Bereaved Members:

Suzanne Turner, President, informed the Board about some Chapter/Affiliate
members and/or their relatives are having some health issues and urged
everyone to keep them in his/her thoughts and prayers. Also, she mentioned
those members who are feeling better or fully recovered.

Secretary Report:

The report was postponed because the quorum was not reached.

Membership:

Dr. Peters, reminded all members about the importance of the membership and
urged everyone to Spread the word to family and friends to invite them to
join the National Federation of the Blind. She added that the best way to
convey that is to tell and share your story and how you became very
independent and in control of your life. Suzanne, thanked her on behalf of
all members and stated that membership is very important!!!

President's Announcements/Reminders/Remarks:

Suzanne Turner, President, thanked everyone for attending the meeting, for
the help some of the members are providing, and for all the meetings
organized by some members during these COVID-19 difficult times. Moreover,
she welcomed all visitors from other chapters who are joining our meeting.
She made the following announcements/reminders/remarks:

She reminded all members about the surge of COVID-19 in Ohio. She urged
everyone to be careful and adhere to the safety measures when  going out.

2: The 2021 National Convention is going to be virtual. She urged everyone
to attend and register. 

3: The 2021 State convention is most likely to be in person. She added that
we will keep you informed about the final decision as soon as it
materializes.

4: She mentioned that our chapter monthly meeting for August 2021 may not be
virtual and could be outdoor. She added that the decision Is not made yet.
We need to wait and see if there is any risk from COVID-19.  We will
Consider the matter month by month and keep an open- eye on Ohio's COVID-19
statistics. Some members raised the bathroom issue if the meeting is going
to be outdoor.

5: She urged everyone to read his or her emails.

6: The affiliate Board meeting is on Sunday, April 25,2021.

7: Uber and Paratransit are offering free rides for those who would like to
get their COVID-19 shot.

8: Call 211 to schedule a COVID-19 shot appointment.

9: Now, Door dash will place your order for you,

10: FEMA reimburses funeral expenses.

Senior division:

Gloria Conway reminded all members about Sharing solutions meeting on
Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 7 pm. She added that the topic of the meeting will
be about Craft and the meeting will be through the Ohio conference call,
which is mentioned at the bottom of these minutes.

Columbus Chapter Fund Raising:

Shelley Duffy informed all members about the Pampered chef party fundraising
and explained how it works. She added that some percentage of the sales will
be given to the chapter. She urged everyone to participate. Suzanne Turner
Thanked her for the information and explanation.

Team Building:

Suzanne Turner, President asked the following question about personal
identity: "Who are you and what makes you shine?" There were many great
answers from many members. Suzanne added that this question is "What makes
you unique?" and concluded by stating that Your Internal character defines
your personality.

National Federation of the Blind Trivia Game:

Suzanne Turner asked some Trivia questions and the winner for each question
will get $15.00. The following winners considered their prizes as their
yearly dues; their names are: Gloria, Evelyn, Billie and Rebecca. delcenia
donated her prize to the chapter.

Meeting adjourned: 6:00 pm.
