Fellow Federation list, let’s not keep an ongoing thread with this topic on this list. Owens post deserves a response and not a debate. If anyone wishes to engage in a prolong discussion on this issue with Owen or anyone else please keep it off this list. Oh and the staff at the school for the blind has the obligation to do all that they can to keep all students and each other as safe as possible. Wearing masks in the time of a pandemic is a responsible thing to do and they shouldn’t do any less. What happened to the days when people said what are my responsibilities to my country and fellow citizens before they said my rights are being violated? I remember those days, it seems like they are a long time far away now. We as leaders of the National Federation of the Blind Ohio have a responsibility to keep our members and those associated with our organization safe and that is why we once again chose to have a virtual convention. It is sad that as a nation in the world we are dealing with a pandemic, but it is no more sad for the students at the Ohio State school for the blind or for the National Federation of the Blind then it is anyone else. Although we all have the right to our own opinions on a variety of topics showing dissension during the time of a pandemic is wrong, so personally I applaud the school for the blind for their reaction to your post. I know this does not make you happy, but again we do not have the right although many think we do to so dissension during the time of a worldwide pandemic, just as we do not have the right to shout fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire. free-speech should have its limits even in the United States, and as far as I’m concerned when we engage in speech that is harmful to others it should be stopped. Spreading miss information and creating dissension during a pandemic is wrong. You and others have the right to choose not to go to schools businesses or any other establishments or personal residence that require masks. Again the Board of Directors of the National Federation of the Blind Ohio made made the decision to have a virtual convention this year. Not everyone on the board was in favor of that decision, but as is the case in the National Federation of the Blind the majority vote rules. We made this decision because we want to keep our members and others safe just like the school for the blind has a high population of multi handicap students which should be considered when the flu and viruses are going viruses are going around, we have a large population of senior citizens in our organization and I believe we did the responsible thing.

I was on their Facebook page and they were celebrating White Cane month which is allways cool but I’m scrolling down the photos and faculty and students were all masked up!! i understand they are trying to be safe but shouldn’t the students and faculty have rights to not wear a mask but maybe They do and I’m just being stupid I guess!!
