Dear Sadie,

I am so distressed to hear of this accident. Your family and especially your sister will be in my prayers. Please know that I am surrounding all of you with Divine love. Your sister is having to learn some hard truths about forgiveness and especially forgiving herself. I will pray for the other teams as well that they may recover quickly and completely.

Warmly,
Barbara

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise expectations for blind people because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and their dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.

This past Saturday, my 15-year-old sister was driving my family’s Polaris crew with five other individuals in it with her. None of them were wearing seatbelts, and all were severely injured. They suffered from concussions, a knee injury, and some required stitches. On Monday morning, I received a message that my sister had posted to social media that she wanted to commit suicide because of the guilt of the crash.
