Intro to Web Accessibility
Tuesday, August 30, 2022, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. via Zoom | Register for the Intro to Web Accessibility Boutique <https://nfb.org/civicrm/mailing/url?u=26880&qid=7456283>
Americans use the internet for everything from work, to caring for them selves and families, to being entertained. Yet, many websites and apps remain difficult to impossible for blind people to access because they are not designed with accessibility in mind.
Web accessibility is easy when designed from the start, and designing accessible websites and apps can benefit everyone, not just blind users. Join the National Federation of the Blind Center of Excellence in Nonvisual Accessibility Intro to Web Accessibility Boutique to learn how to make your websites and apps accessible to blind users and better for everyone. The boutique will cover:
* What is a screen reader, and what is the experience for someone who depends on this technology to navigate websites.
* What should a web developer keep in mind to make sure their websites are accessible.
* What are the current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Recommended for developers, content creators, bloggers, influencers, communications professionals, web designers, web administrators, students and teachers in IT and web-related fields, and open to interested folks.
The Center of Excellence in Nonvisual Accessibility is pleased to present this free Intro to Web Accessibility Boutique in partnership with the Maryland Department of disabilities.
Register today to learn how to make all of your websites and apps accessible to blind users. <https://nfb.org/civicrm/mailing/url?u=26880&qid=7456283>
It’s Worth the Effort
Accessibility simplifies and improves interactions with blind customers, employees, and employers. Accessible documents are useful to more than blind users. Most of the features added to increase accessibility also make projects easier to use for a wide variety of people.
* Keyboard users
* Those with small screen devices
* Dictation software users
* People using automated tools to gather information on documents, webpages, and other media.
* Some accessibility features can make a project easier to migrate to other platforms or formats.
Creating accessible documents can be simple and powerful for anybody to incorporate into their workflow. Accessibility boutiques and seminars are workshops presented by our access technology experts that provide introductions to accessibility best practices and the latest trends in access tech.
