The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.

Subject: [Ohio-Talk] H.B. 448

Good evening! I am pleased to report that it appears that our email campaign
to the Ohio House Insurance Committee has worked. The Committee released
their agenda late today for tomorrow's meeting and H.B. 448 is the first
item on the agenda. The Committee will be holding the 1st hearing, which is
Sponsor Testimony. So Representative Richard Brown, H.B. 448's legislative
sponsor will be testifying. The meeting will be taking place tomorrow,
Wednesday, February 16, 2022, morning at 10:00 A.M. The meeting will be
live-streamed on the Ohio Channel at https://www.ohiochannel.org/

I want to thank everyone for responding so quickly to the request to send
out emails to the Committee. This is the kind of impact we can have when we
use our voices collectively to call for change. While getting the Committee
to hold its first hearing is a major success, our work is far from over. We
will need to keep the pressure up to make sure the Committee holds the
proponent testimony, opponent testimony, and interested party testimony
hearings quickly as well. We will also need to keep the pressure on the
Committee and then the full House to vote in favor of the bill.

So, now that we have the Sponsor Testimony hearing scheduled, the Proponent
Testimony could come as quickly as next week. The Proponent Testimony
hearing is where we will be able to make our case in favor of H.B. 448. We
likely will not get much notice of when the Proponent Testimony hearing will
be held. In fact, our notice will likely be 24-48 hours in advance at the
absolute best. So we need everyone to begin preparing your testimony in
support of H.B. 448 immediately so that it is ready to go when the House
Insurance Committee is ready for it. When you have your testimony prepared,
please send me a copy of it so that the NFB of Ohio has a record of it.

Thanks, and please let Eric or I know if you have any questions.

Todd Elzey
