I know NFB is advocating to end income limits for blind people on SS but how can we encourage people to take the big and scary step to let SS go until NFB is successful? It is so hard to let it go since it can take so long to get it back when something happens.

Eric is absolutely right. The Ohio Affiliate is lucky to have a leadership team such as yourself, President Payne, and Suzanne who understand the State Budget process so well. Having vocational rehabilitation services fully funded is a great opportunity to move Blind and low-vision Ohioans from relying upon Government benefits to working in either full-time employment or self-employment ventures. As you and President Payne continue your monthly meetings with OOD I look forward to hearing how you can maximize these rehab funds for Ohio's blind and low-vision population.

Like Eric, despite opposing Suzanne's Resolution at our last, I too believe that her premise had merit worth pursuing. Despite Governor Dewine's goal of making Ohio a Disability Inclusion State, blind Ohioans lag far behind in the employment rate in the general population. The most recent statistics I could find seem to indicate that the general unemployment rate runs between 4-5% in Ohio. But of course, we know for blind and low-vision Ohioans that rate is an astounding 70%. So there remains much work to be done. Fully funding Rehabilitation services is an excellent start, and it will be awesome to see how our NFB of Ohio leadership team that meets with OOD guides the agency to use this funding to best meet the needs of Blind and low-vision Ohioans.
