Hi everyone,
Wanted to send a save the date for Ohio's STEM2U program! Multiple states
will be doing similar space themed activities, and Laura Pitner and I are
leading the Ohio event! It will be on Sunday, May 21 at COSI in Columbus.
Target age range for students is 3rd-12th grade. We will be in need of
volunteers - more info to come once we know how many students we can host.
If you already know you are interested in volunteering, send me an email and
we'll make sure to contact you. Still working on a time but the event will
be for about 6-8 hours. Under my signature is more info about the program.
Once we get a time set on May 21, the sign up link will go live on the NFB
website for students to sign up! We'll send more info here when it becomes
available; just wanted to send the date!
Thank you,
Caroline Karbowski and Laura Pitner

Launch into STEM: Upcoming Event for Blind & Low-Vision Students
Hands-on activities. Accessible graphics. Blind role models.
The National Federation of the Blind works to improve opportunities for
blind students in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics (STEM). NFB STEM2U brings nonvisual accessible lessons and
activities to blind youth. Students of varying ages across the country will
learn fundamental nonvisual tools and techniques they can use to pursue
further education and careers.
This program is great for youth in grades three through twelve* who:
* Are interested in experiments and investigations
* Could benefit from fun programs specific to blind students
* Need hands-on, nonvisual skills training opportunities
*Some programs may accept students in younger grades.
The theme this year is space! In collaboration with the Center of Science
and Industry (COSI) join us for a day of excitement as we build and launch
rockets, create a moon base, learn about the impact of craters, and make a
parachute.
STEM can be accessible; let us show you how!
