Now, the charge is to bring one or two individuals, along with inviting networks to attend. I am sure you can entice them with those DoubleTree chocolate chip cookies or purchasing items in the Exhibit Hall. However, perhaps they would like a massage. But, if not! Tell them about all of the great seminars, hospitality and bands that will be performing at the Board Meeting and on Friday night . It is up to all of us to make this a great event! Registration will begin on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 9:00 AM EST. So, if you were not able to preregister, make sure that you do so, and purchase your banquet ticket. Why register you ask? This is an opportunity for you to win one of the many generous and exciting door prizes available. Also, giving back to help support the organization's mission is appreciated. One Note! Please review the code of conduct on the web page at NFBOhio.ORG. Agenda and more are attached! Again, congratulations! See you there! Suzanne M. If you have voted, please take the time to record your experience. Today you can call 877-632-1940. A nice man will read you the questions and write down your answers. This is the same number you call if you are having trouble of any kind voting. If you decide to fill out the questionnaire by phone using an artificial voice, call tomorrow. The number to call is 833-632-7878. I had my usual easy time till I got to Issue 1. There was no explanation about how to skip the ballot language. It turns out that the down arrow does not just move you to the next voting choice in that voting question, it also skips you through the ballot language text. You have to hit the down arrow 12 times to get to the yes or no choice. I was afraid to experiment with the right arrow and down arrow because, if you pick the wrong one, you jump to the top of the description. I decided to be conservative and listen to all the gobbelty gook. This was a bad decision. It takes more than five minutes to listen to it all. The machine times out after five minutes. It then erases your entire ballot and puts you at the top of the entire process. Don?t do it. I tried to convince them that I ought to be able to vote twice since I filled out the ballot twice. They didn?t buy the argument. Please take the time to answer the questionnaire. This was a broken machine issue, not an accessibility issue. I had already read about issue one, so I did skip through the language and got right to the choices. So, I did not notice the issue that You others have encountered, but yes, they need to get that fixed. Hopefully everybody else has gotten out to vote today. Or, got to vote early. Annette. We have a great opportunity to get this finally passed. I want to give you an example of why this is crucial. Two of the Cleveland Chapter members were given drugs that could have been fatal, due to the pharmacy inability to provide accessible information. One member has currently suffered kidney damage as a result of providing inaccurate dosage. Therefore, it is important that we have a prescription bill put in place to protect the blind and our loved ones. Here is, Sharla Glass, who is the Public Policy and Community Outreach Liaison for En-Vision America note below. Also attached, is Rep. Brown's sponsor testimony, as well as the text and analysis documents for HB 382. President, Payne will represent the NFB of Ohio on Wednesday! Once you have prepared your testimony, email or please fill out the attached witness form and submit it to ohrinsurancecommittee at ohiohouse.gov or send it to President Payne. Finally, if anyone needs assistance, let me know! /// Friends, This is exciting news! Many of you may already know about it, but just in case you haven't I wanted to let you know! The accessible labeling bill has been reintroduced under a new bill number and has a hearing this week! This bill would require insurance coverage of accessible prescription readers. They are seeking testimony which needs to be turned in by 10am Tuesday morning. I have attached the witness form that you would need to return along with your testimony to ohrinsurancecommittee at ohiohouse.gov . At Washington Seminar, our members convene to learn about and advocate for legislative initiatives that will improve the lives of blind Americans. Approximately three legislative initiatives are chosen for priority attention each year. These initiatives, which form the Washington Seminar priorities, are based on the official positions of the NFB adopted at the national convention and can address concerns related to civil rights, educational programs and services, rehabilitation of the blind for competitive employment, the operation of vending facilities by blind persons on public property, specialized library services for the blind, the organization and funding of federal programs, Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income programs, and other timely topics. The first Washington Seminar took place in 1973. Today, more than five hundred people from the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico typically attend. We could not have done it without you! This convention was a success, offering attendees, information, mentorship, networking, and Moore. Ohio has a lot of talent and caring members who stepped up and took the charge on assisting one another throughout the convention. We do hope that you continue to uplift one another in keeping with the NFB'S philosophy, "The National Federation of the Blind also provides encouragement and support to families with blind children and to people who are losing vision or have become blind later in life, by bringing them into a network of tens of thousands of blind people who are living full lives and who can serve as mentors and role models. Together, with love, hope, and determination, the members of the National Federation of the Blind transform dreams into reality". Therefore, I believe that this convention did just that. The energy was high, and members spirits were hopeful for a prosperous and productive 2025. We encourage you to consider attending and volunteering in 2025 with us at the 79th State Convention. The mission of our organization is to provide blind people with the tools, technology and fellowship that will offer them support, independence and opportunity. You have helped us to foster a positive outlook on our lives for the upcoming year. Now, let's turn the page and get ready to pull up our sleeves by "changing what it means to be blind" across the state. Again, thank you for all you do for the Blind of Ohio, and let's go build the federation! Suzanne From: National Federation of the Blind Sent: Wednesday, November 27, 2024 12:01 PM To: Suzanne Turner Subject: Legislative Alert: Time-Sensitive Action for Congress Contact Congress Members about the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act We are coming down to the wire on the 118th Congress and we want to make sure that we?ve done everything that we possibly can in order to advocate for our legislative priorities. In this case, we are trying to ensure that the Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act (TCIEA) is included in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) reauthorization bill that is currently being considered. Right now is a crucial time for this initiative because Congress wants to pass the WIOA reauthorization when they return after Thanksgiving. We need you to flood the email inboxes and telephone lines and voicemail boxes of four key committee staff members in order to make sure TCIEA gets included in the final bill: Amy Jones Majority Staff Director, House Committee on Education and the Workforce Amy.jones at mail.house.gov 202-225-4527 V?ronique Pluviose-Fenton Minority Staff Director, House Committee on Education and the Workforce veronique.pluviose at mail.house.gov 202-225-3725 Warren Gunnels Majority Staff Director, Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Warren_Gunnels at help.senate.gov 202-224-0767 Amanda Lincoln Minority Staff Director, Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Amanda_lincoln at help.senate.gov 202-224-5375 Sample Script When you call or email, you might say something like: ?Dear [NAME]: I am urging the [HOUSE EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE COMMITTEE/SENATE HELP COMMITTEE] to please include the TCIEA in the WIOA reauthorization bill. The TCIEA will eliminate the payment of subminimum wages for people with disabilities and eliminate the need for a government program to monitor special wage certificate holders. Thank you." If you send an email, please use the subject line ?Please Include the TCIEA in the WIOA Reauthorization? and copy Justin Young jyoung at nfb.org . Congress is working diligently to move the WIOA reauthorization bill as soon as they get back after the Thanksgiving break, so time is of the essence for us to make our voices heard. You can receive one donation for $3.00 and 2 donations for $5.00. We will draw one name on Sunday, Dec. 15 and will notify the winner. Way Around tags are great for labeling anything. You can create a message on the Way Around sticker. The stickers come in all shapes and sizes. Here is a brief description of Way Around stickers. There's a tag for just about everything. If you want to label something that's inside, outside, wet, dry, hot, or cold, there's a WayTag that will attach securely. WayTags come as stickers, buttons, magnets, and clips. Each of the different styles of WayTags work exactly the same. Simply choose the WayTag that's best for what you want to label. * Label your kitchen, clothing, or medication. * Tag specialty items and tools for hobbies. * Organize lots of information about one thing on a single WayTag. * Scan each WayTag 100,000 times or more. Keep adding more WayTags! Use any style of tag, in any order. There's no limit to the number of WayTags you can use. So you can rely on one system to label all your things. All you need to get started is an app for your Android or iPhone and the Way Around tags. If you want to make a donation to the NFB Ohio At-large chapter you can send a check to Colleen Roth 1219 Tracy Road Lyndhurst, OH 44124 Or you can pay with Pay Pal by sending the money to marianne at denningweb.com If someone wants to use Zell just let me know and I can activate my account with Zell.
