Just so I’m keeping everyone in the loop, I officially start my job on Monday. I have been taking the past week or so to get unpacked and oriented. Has anyone else who has traveled to/lived in Pittsburgh noticed that drivers don’t pay attention to crossing signals? I’ve had some close calls because of people not paying attention… Thank goodness for Oko and other pedestrians! 

 

I’ve had a couple of people ask for my address and/or how they can help, so I have created an Amazon list with some items I am still needing for my apartment. They will ship directly to me. Attached below is the link to that list.

I am so excited to start my job, and I was able to meet my boss and visit the office for the first time on Thursday. Hello federation family! I hope you are all well. It’s been a very busy four and a half months since I graduated college! After at least 200 job applications, many interviews and trips to Pittsburgh for them, I have finally been blessed with a job. Although I am excited, this line of work is not something I even remotely saw myself doing when I graduated college in May.

I will be selling insurance through New York Life Insurance Company. Last Wednesday, I sat for my state licensing exam in Pittsburgh and passed with an 86% on my first attempt. In order to take this exam, I had to complete countless hours of rigorous coursework, practice examinations, and countless hours of listening to material. I am beyond grateful that I am able to start my next chapter as soon as I get my license approved by the state. 

Along with this, just a few hours ago I signed my very first lease for an apartment in downtown Pittsburgh. I will be moving in on Thursday and I cannot be more excited. It is a beautiful apartment complex with lots of amenities.

Although all of this is very exciting, I am up against a major challenge… I do not get a paycheck from my job until I trigger the contract, which requires crossing the commission threshold of $1750 of earned commission. Although I know I am capable of sales, I’m just not sure I’m going to be able to make a living doing this… I’m confident in my abilities, but this is just a difficult business. Without income until I meet the threshold, I’m definitely in for a challenging couple of weeks, especially with moving expenses.

Looking forward to getting involved with the federation again very soon!
