Good morning Ohio!
Have you registered for convention yet? Have you got your room all lined up? Are you getting excited? I am. That is why I wanted to send out a few reminders for all of you about our upcoming convention to be held in Westlake, Ohio November 14 through the 17th.
First of all, are all of you working on your chapter or division Gavel reports? There are probably a couple of people in your chapter or division who is in charge of putting this information together, but every one of you can contribute. Let those who are preparing your gavel report know of all the exciting things that you have accomplished over the last year. Those of us on the awards committee are wanting a very competitive awards season. We want you to make our jobs difficult to decide which chapter and division should be the winner. The deadline for submitting the reports is October 1, which will be here before you know it.
Also, as always, we are looking for many, many, door, prizes! So, if your chapter, division, or any individual would like to donate a door prize, we will be happy to take it! The more prizes we have, the more winners will have. A lot of prizes consist of gift cards, bath and body items, baked goods, and other miscellaneous items. And of course, everybody loves to win cash. if you donate a door prize, please bring it to convention and either leave it with me, or at the registration table. Also, please have all door prizes labeled in braille as to what they are and who donated.
Also, once again this year, we will be holding a not so silent auction at the banquet. We are looking for larger, higher priced items to auction off. Many chapters and divisions, put together auction baskets, and these tend to be very popular. We also have had great success with electronic items and show tickets! So, like the door prizes, please label your auction items in braille, that way everybody can know exactly what they’re bidding on and get those bids even higher! This is a great fundraiser for our affiliate, so be prepared to donate an item, and to bid on some! And remember, we are a family friendly organization! So keep that in mind when you put your baskets together.
Thanks to all of you for all you do for our beloved Federation! looking forward to seeing everybody at convention!

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Everyday we raise the expectations of blind people because we know that low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want, blindness is not what holds you back.
